CARTERTON

TOTARA LODGE OF DRUIDS. FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. ("Times-Ace” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of Totara Lodge of Druids was held last evening, Bro A. Kay, Arch Druid, presiding over a fair attendance of members. Prior-to lodge business a vote of condolence was passed to Bros Reg and A. H. Wilson in the death of their father. The Dominion Friendly Societies’ Council wrote advising that the Social Security Act would not become operative on April 1, as expected, and “advised members to retain their present hospital and medical attention as at present available. The Grand Lodge forwarded proposed amendments to rules to bo considered at New Plymouth on March 14. Delegates were given a free hand in all matters at the conference.

The next lodge night, February 27, will be quarter night, when business of importance will be transacted. At this meeting Bro A. Stretton will be installed as District President, after which he will present the retiring District President with a Past District President’s Collar and Diploma. All lodges of No. 1 district will be present at the ceremony, at the conclusion of which they will be entertained.

Members who are on the sick funds of the lodge were favourably reported upon.

Sick pay to the amount of £2O 12s 8d was passed for payment. Some members complained they were wrongly charged for medicine, which is contrary to the agreement with the Friendly Societies’ Council, and the lodge surgeons. Personal. Mrs George Fellingham, of Te Kuiti, is staying with Mr and Mrs Jas Archer, Kent Street, Carterton. Labour Party Social. There was a large attendance at the Band room, Holloway Street, Carterton on Saturday night, when the Labour Party held its weeky card evening. The ladies first prize was won by Mrs Williams (South Carterton), and the second prize went to Mrs Collerton. The men's first prize was won by Mr Smith, of Wellington, with Mr Daysh (Carterton) second. The ladies’ committee had charge of the supper. • The function was well managed and was most enjoyable. bowling. CHAMPION RINK MEDALS. A rink of Carterton bowlers have challenged the holders of the champion rink medals to a game which will be played one evening this week, probably on Thursday. The Carterton team will be Smith, Bain, De Lacy and Tucker (s).
