A proposal that a vote of parents of boys attending the Christchurch Technical College should be taken on the desirability of having a week’s military training in barracks was not favoured by the board ol governors of the college. It was explained that exemption from attendance at barracks could be obtained at present on application by parents. The proposal was made by Mr T. Nuttall, who said that the period of military training in barracks was not necessary and did more harm than good. Other members. however, maintained that a vote of parents would not be a sound way of deciding the question, as the average period of attendance at the college was not long and such a vote would have to be taken every two years or so. The proposal was lost on the voices.
