SWIMMING CARNIVAL

SATURDAY NIGHT’S EVENTS

MANY VISITING COMPETITORS.

MASTERTON CLUB’S SUCCESSFUL MEETING. Adverse weather unfortunately prevailed for the swimming carnival held in the Dixon Street Baths on Saturday evening by the Masterton Amateur Swimming Club, and great disappointment was evident after the promising weather earlier in the day. The water remained al a delightful temperature. however, and the weather conditions did not affect (lie standard of swimming.

The efficient starting by Mr R. Barnes saw the events all run off well up to time. The inadequacy of the baths was again apparent, and the club’s officials are to be congratulated on their fine management under such conditions. The success of the carnival as a financial venture was most satisfactory. Swimmers were present from centres far and near, and the standard set was at all times high. Amusing diversions were created by "A visitor from London. Miss N. E. Body.” Attired in the traditional -neck to knee costume.” the fancy dives “she" executed were thoroughly appreciated by the spectators. At the conclusion of the carnival, the competitors and club supporters were entertained at supper by the ladies’ social committee. Mr H. P. Glenn, president, expressed appreciation of the support given bj’ outside swimmers.
