PAHIATUA SHOW
SPLENDID DISPLAY OF JERSEYS, CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS. (Ry Te’egraph—Press Association.) PAHIATUA, February 11. Held on the Pahiatua racecourse today, the twenty-ninth annual show conducted by the Pahiatua Agricultural and Pastoral Association reflects the continued growth of the association, entries for today’s fixture being higher and better in quality than at any previous show held in Pahiatua. Jerseys, with 90 entries, were by far the best represented breed at the show. Sheep entries were on a par with last year, Southdowns being much better represented than Romneys. Despite a light drizzle late in the afternoon, the gate takings again- approximated £145, the record established last year.
A noteworthy feature of the show was the outstanding performance of rnembers'of the Ballance Young Farmers’ Club in the two judging competitions. In the Southdown judging class, four club members, H. C. Wilton, I. W. Bremner, L. W. Holdaway and M. Ross, were all equal first, their decisions being identical with those of the Southdown judge. In the Jersey judging class, two other Balance club members, R. Waldman and R. F. Day, secured first and second places respectively. Championships. Championship awards were allotted as follows: — Horse: Miss N. Cameron’s Waiforte. Jerseys: Bull, T. B. Heapy’s Hupenui Forward; reserve, Allan Horn and Son’s- Allendale Royal Highness; cow, Allan Horn and Son's Te Ngutu Fay; reserve, F. V. Bryant’s Jersey Glen Dawn. Friesians: Bull. L. S. Gallon's Mahae Wolseley; reserve, M. J. Parker’s Sir Olga Forbes; cow, M. J. Parker’s Woodlea Avis; reserve, L. Reichenbach’s Totara Colantha Victoria. Sheep: Romneys: Ram, Cullinane Bros; reserve, T. Daken; ewe and reserve, C. H. Wilton. Southdowns: Ram. Cullinane Bros; reserve, D. O'Brien; ewe, J .Mitchell; reserve, L. A. Keats. , Special Prizes, Points and special prizes were won as follow: — Irvine Cup, maiden pony jump: W. Beatson’s Peter Pan. Hill Cup, open pony jump: Miss J. McGuinness’s Moonlight. Maiden jumping cup: G. Mattsen’s Spcarson. Special novice jumping trophy: F. L. Ske'et’s Coronation. Cup and Collinson and Cunninghame’s trophy, open jumping, and also Evans’s trophy, women* jump: B. R. McGuinness’s Scout. Bisset Cup. dog trial: A. Cleghorn. Merrie Cup, points chopping; I. Cullen. Anderson s Cup, champion hack: Miss N Cameron s .Waiforte Campbell Cup. milk cart horse: J Finlay. Collinson Cup, points jerseys: Allan Horn and Son. Friesian points cup: M. J. Parker. Sinclair Cup, grade dairy cows: H. W. Butcher. Bolton Cup, grade dairy heifer: C. Fergus. Oxley Cup, young farmers’ clubs, fat lambs: T. Murphy. Tataramoa Cup. points fat sheep and fat lambs: D. W. Reid.
