CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES LAST SATURDAY’S RESULTS. MODERATE SCORING. The Wairarapa Cricket Association continued its senior and junior matches on Saturday under pleasant conditions until late in the afternoon, when a southerly gale sprang up, making the light very bad. On this account stumps in the Red Star-Old Buys match were drawn about 5.40 p.m., the Star batsmen having difficulty in sighting the ball. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP RED STAR v OLD BOYS. The Old Boys and Red Star teams commenced a match on the Park Oval. Old Boys (one player short) batted first and made 188, Alexander (five 4’s and a 6), Roach (six 4’s), Ryan (two 4’s and two 3’s), Logan (a 6 and three 4’s) and McPherson (three 4’s) batting particularly well for their runs. Old Boys.— In their match with Masterton at the College, Old Boys batted first and compiled 184 runs by consistent batting (Payne 43, Merrick 27, Wilson 24, Heenan 18, Corbishley 14 not out, Kemnitz 13, Curtis 12, Wright 10. The wickets were-shared for Masterton by Longworth 4 for 34, Minifie 3 for 14, and R. Brice 2 for 54. After a brilliant opening partnership by Brice (78) and Read (31), which took their score to 104 before the first wicket fell, Masterton were all out for 146, Old Boys securing a fjrst innings win. Kemnitz 3 for 40, and Corbishley 3 for 41) bowled best for Old Boys.
