‘I ENNIS MATCH. WIN FOR CARRINGTON PARK. (“Times-Age” Special.) A match was played between the Featherston and Carrington Park Tennis clubs at Featherston, the local club losing by 2 sets and 9 games. Personal Items. Mr N. C. C. Shepherd, district commissioner will attend the farewell function in Carterton on Saturday given by the Carterton and Gladstone Cub packs to Mr Robson, who has been Cubmaster to the Gladstone pack for the past 12 months, and who is leaving for Wanganui. Mr and Mrs D. C. Collins will leave on a visit to England shortly. Mr Spence, secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Wellington, and Mrs Spence were weekend visitors, being the guest.of Mr Herbert Hodder. Word has been received of the death of Mrs Dyer, .of Lyttelton, mother of Mrs C. D. Ritchie, of Featherston. Mr W. J. McGill has bought the lease of rhe Criterian Hotel, Napier, and will take over the hotel in March.

Rain of Little Value. After a spell of several weeks of dry, hot weather, a fairly heavy rain fell on Saturday night. Although very welcome, the rain was not sufficient to be of any apparent benefit to crops, gardening, etc. Following the rain on Saturday evening, Featherston experienced a hot day yesterday, which trampers campers, etc., took full advantage of. Sheep Perish in Flames. Fire fighters who helped to save farms, buildings and fences, etc., in the Woodside-Upper Tauherenikau plains last week when a large area of grass, etc. was burnt, report that a number of sheep perished in the flames. Mr Denny Carlyon left on Saturday on his annual holidays. Flying from Wellington to Blenheim, he joined a house party in the Sounds, where the holiday will be spent. Trainer's Success. It is pleasing to hear that Mr Percy Hazleman, who, for a number of years, was a trainer in the Wairarapa, has been very successful in the Hawke’s Bay. It will be remembered that he trained, and won the New Zealand Derby with Black Ronald, owned by the late Mr Charles Elgar.
