SHORTAGE OF LABOUR

SERIOUS PROBLEM RAISED IN GERMANY

LONGER HOURS & HARDER WORK. HINTED AT IN OFFICIAL REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. BERLIN, February 9. Germany’s need for more labour for industry is dealt with in an official report, in which there is a hint of longer hours and harder work. Last year’s new sources included 150,000 combed from the unemployed and 670,000 mobilised from domestic employees and pensioners. Despite this, it is estimated there will be a deficiency of a million workers in 1939, to meet which rationalisation and a more intense use of existing labour is necessitated.
