WOMEN’S DIVISION

PROVINCIAL COUNCIL MEETING. MRS C. C. 'JACKSON HONOURED. The bi-monthly meeting of the Women’s Division Provincial Council was held in the Women’s Division Rest Room, Masterton, on Wednesday. Owing to the Masterton Show date falling on the regular meeting day, the meeting was held a week earlier than usual. Mrs E. H. Dagg (the president of ''the Provincial Council) occupied the chair, and at a suitable interval called upon Miss E. H. Dagg to present Mrs C. C. Jackson, the guest - of honour, with a posy. The housekeeping secretary (Mrs J. Standen) reported that a very busy time had been experienced during the holiday period, and stated that a number of engagements could not be filled owing to the great demand for help. Business in connection with Flock House, which is now the Women’s Division Training College and Rest Home, at Palmerston North, was discussed at length. It was decided that finance for the purpose from branches be sent to the Provincial Council. The opening of this Home will take place on Saturday,. February 18, at 1 p.m. It was suggested that each member contribute gifts suitable for stocking the cupboard and linen chest. Gifts of this nature would be greatly appreciated by the matron. In the afternoon between 70 and 80 ladies assembled at the Country Club, which had been lent for the occasion, for the .purpose of honouring Mrs C. C. Jackson, who recently resigned the position of secretary of the Provincial Council.

Mrs Jackson was asked to accept a cheque, the guest of honour being accorded musical honours.. Mrs Barrer then spoke of the time, long ago, when Mrs Jackson and herself toured the Wairarapa in an old car, talking and planning .Women’s Division work, and as the result of this tour, the first branch of the movement was founded in the Wairarapa. Mrs Barrer went on to say how much the movement owed to Mrs Jackson’s untiring efforts—efforts that have now proved so successful. Mrs Barrer stated that the Pioneer Book which is being compiled by Mesdames T. R. Barrer, C. K. Wilson and Spurdie, and which contains the history of the pioneers of New Zealand, would be on. sale during the Centenary. When Mrs Jackson rose to reply she spoke of many things in connection with the Women’s Division work. Mrs Jackson stated that the members who formed the first meeting were Mesdames C. C. Jackson, Barrer, G. J. Wiggins and Tilyard, of Greytown. Miss Boddington and Mrs Miller contributed- delightful items which were greatly appreciated. The serving of afternoon tea concluded a very happy gathering.
