LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY
FIRST SEASON’S ACTIVITIES.
PRESENTATION OF “LOVERS
LEAP”.
A report on the first season's activities of the Masterton Little Theatre Society, to be presented at the annual meeting next Thursday, states, inter alia: —
"As the society came into being very late in the year, its activities were necessarily restricted and limited to the presentation of only one three act play and one social evening.
"Membership. Your committee is pleased to report that the initial appeal for members met with a ready response and grew steadily up to the time of production when the roll stood at 134 financial members.
“Public production. It was hoped to present Mr Justice Wool's 'Libel' as an initial offering but after a considerable amount of work had been done it was not found possible adequately to present this play owing to casting difficulties and the lateness of the season. However it is hoped that in the coming season this excellent play will be presented. Owing to the shortness of lime it was necessary to choose a play with a small cast and simpler setting and so ‘Lovers Leap,’ a bright comedy by Philip Johnson was selected. The play was presented at the Opera House, Masterton, for a season of two nights and was well received. The thanks of the society are due to the producer, the cast and all those who assisted in making the play such a success. Social Evening. During the season a social evening consisting of three one act plays, supper and dancing was held in the Savage Club Rooms. The evening proved very successful, being attended by over two hundred members and friends and it is hoped that this will be a regular feature of the society's activities. The society's thanks are due to the producers and casts of the plays presented and also the ladies who so willingly assisted with supper and decorations.
"Finance. The finances of the society are in a sound position and an audited statement is presented herewith. Our thanks are duo to Mr T. 'E. Handcock for his work as secretary since the society’s inception. "Personal. We regret to report the departure from Masterton of Mr J. Harcourt, one of our promising young members, and the departure in the near future of Mr J. H. Kemnitz, who beside being an able player, has proved so efficient and helpful on your committee. We wish them every success in their new spheres of activities. “The committee expresses its thanks and appreciation to the Press for its co-operation, to the front of house and stage staffs for their work during the season."
