There is considerable activity among local authorities in Britain in pushing ahead with their housing schemes, said Major F. W. Tomlinson, when visiting Christchurch. Major Tomlinson, who was a member of the council at Sandwich, Kent, for four years, indicated that houses were being built for those in such meagre circumstances that they could not afford the usual council house. These special houses, which consist of a kitchenliving room and two or three bedrooms of small dimensions, are semidetached and let at a rent of 5s a week.
