MASTERTON EWE FAIR
The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Company, Ltd., report: At the Masterton ewe fair yesterday we sold an entry of 6300 to a good attendance of .buyers, including a number from outside districts. Vendors were ready to meet the market and a good clearance was effected. The top price of the sale, 29s 9d, was obtained for an outstanding line of twotooth Romney ewes sold on account of Mr George Shaw, Te Ore Ore, and a line of two-tooth Lincoln cross ewes on account of the same vendor brought 255. A good line of 6-th ewes offered on account of Mr A. Forsberg made 20s 6d. A magnificent draft of 720 5-year-old ewes on account of Mamaku topped the market in this section and fell to the bid of a Waikato buyer at 19s lOd. Another line on account of Mr George Shaw brought 195.. Three hundred and fifty 6-year-old ewes on account of Mr Donald Thompson, Glencrieff, brought 13s Id and 670 on account of Est. O. Percy, Te, Ore Ore, made 13s. A nice line of ewe lambs on account of Mi’ A. Tuckett, Whakataki realised 16s 6d. A number of Down cross lambs was offered and the top price for these, 16s Bd, was obtained for a good conditioned line on account of Mr J. H. Heckler, Ihuraua. A line of 4-th wethers on account of Mr C. H. Vallance, Ngatahuna, brought 17s sd.
Quotations are: Best 2-th ewes, 26s to 29s 9d; inferior, 15s 6d to 18s; 6-th ewes, 15s 6d to 20s 6d; average to good, 14s to 16s; fattening ewes, 5s 6d to 8s lOd; medium, 13s to 14s; small, 8s to 8s 6d; others from 6s lid to 12s; fat wethers, 18s to 19s; fat lambs, 17s to 19s; medium to good, 23s to 255; maiden 4-th ewes, 225; best 5-year-old ewes, 18s to 19s 9d; 6-year-old ewes, 10s to 13s Id; best ewe lambs, to 16s 6d; w.f.w. lambs, 12s; best b.f. lambs, 14s 2d to 16s 8d; 4-th wethers, 16s to 17s 6d; fat ewes, 9s.
