YOUNG FARMERS

MASTERTON CLUB ACTIVITIES.

PROPOSED SOUTH ISLAND TOUR. The Masterton Young Farmers’ Club held its first monthly meeting of the year last night, Mr Don. McGregor, chairman, pre/jjß&TJßßrisiding over a fairly large IDfliSLSfllattendance of members. Hom T PaTry, 'congratulating the club on its growth, and wishing it every success in 1939. Members who had collected fleeces were reminded that they must be handed in by Friday night either -at Mr Lamont’s office or at the Farmers’ Rooms. It was expected that the club would have its full quota of 20 fleeces in the competition. It was stated that members .of Wairarapa clubs would be making a tour of the South Island either in May or June this year. The trip would be made by road, either to Canterbury, Otago or Westland and would occupy from ten days to a fortnight. It was hoped that sufficient members to fill two buses would be able to go. Members were advised that Wairarapa clubs would hold a picnic at Carter’s Bush on February 23. A provincial judging competition would be held at the Wairarapa Training Farm in April. Visitors to Masterton would be billeted by members of the local club.

A handsome wooden cup, made from a totara knot, was presented to the club by an anonymous donor. On behalf of the club, the chairman thanked the donor for his gift. The club decided to take part in the Keep Fit Procession on Saturday, February 18, members to wear dungarees and to carry a farm implement. A banner “How Young Farmers Keep Fit” would also be displayed. Each member will be required to bring their own implement.

The speaker for the evening was Mr Dumbleton, of the Cawthron Institute, his subject being insect control by parasites. His address, which was followed with interest, was illustrated by lantern slides. Mr Dumbleton was accorded a hearty vote of thariks. The annual meeting vzill be held on March 1 and all members are requested to attend.

Supper was served at the conclusion of business.
