CARTERTON
KEITH HOOPER TRUST. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the executive committee of the Keith Hooper' Trust Fund was held in St. Mark’s Vicarage on Tuesday evening. The secretary, the Rev. W. F. Stent, reported that the total expenditure since the inauguration of the fund had been £B2 7s 4d of which £62 Ils 2d was for artificial legs. The Post Office Savings Bank interest amounted to £29 15s lOd, so that actually the limbs had only cost the fund £32 15s 4d. The president and secretary were heartily congratulated upon the manner in which the fund had been administered. Regret was expressed that Mr Stent had formally handed in his resignation, and it was decided that a meeting of the general committee be held on February 16 to consider the resignation and other questions. BOWLING. CHAMPION SINGLES CONTEST. A (very fine and interesting game was played on the bowling green last evening, when Sorensen (2 lives) and George Hart (one life) met. In the early stages' of the game Sorensen was more than holding his own, although both were playing good bowls. On the 12th head Sorensen was leading his opponent by 13 to 6. The next four heads saw Hart overtaking Sorensen and on the 16th ene the score was 14 all. Hart got 2 on the 17th end, Sorensen 1 on the 18th, 15/16, after which he failed to score, Hart gaining 5 on the last three ends and winning 21/15. Both players have now a life each and the next contest will be looked forward to with interest. ‘ Booth Cup. ATTEMPTED THEFT.
. PETROL PUMP DAMAGED.
In the early hours of this morning an attempt was made by intruders to secure petrol from the premises of South Wairarapa Motors. The front of a pump was wrenched off and thrown on to the ground. The noise thus made apparently frightened the intruders, who made off. The sound awakened Mr W. S. King, who investigated and notified the police. Enquiries at petrol vendors elsewhere revealed that no other attempts to secure petrol had been made. The police have the matter in hand. BUILDING SOCIETY. BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society was held in the P. and A. Rooms last evening, Mr L. H. Smart presiding. There were also present Messrs J. Steel, G. Hughan, M. N. Hardie. N. C. C. Shepherd, L. J. Fairbrother and H. M. E. Trapp (directors) and D. P. King (shareholder). No tenders were received for the sale of £6OO and a ballot was held to dispose of same, the successful shareholder being Booth and Co., Ltd. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss E. Ingley, who had managed the affairs of the society since the death of Mr N. R. Armstrong, for the able way in which she had discharged her duties.
Mr Trapp, the newly-appointed secretary, tendered his resignation as a director.
It was decided to hold a sale of £6OO in four weeks’ time.
