STAFF PICNIC
FIRM OF J. C. EWINGTON
ENJOYABLE DAY AT RIVERSDALE
The road to that popular seaside resort, Riversdale beach, was a very busy one at the weekend. From early morning until-' midday cars and motor buses crowded with happy children and adults made their way to the beach to take part in the annual picnic of the staff of Mr J. C. Ewington. As usual, a most enjoyable time was spent —swimming, competitions, novelty events and races keeping everybody busy and happy. The star atraction of the day was . the departmental relay race for a handsome cup, the Foundry and Blacksmiths’ team taking the field for the final to the strains of "The Stars and Stripes.” After a most exciting race Jack Watt (Moulders) stayed off a most determined challenge by Ike Sutherland to just win amidst a scene of great enthusiasm and much cheering.
After the cup had been presented to the winners by Mr J. Ewington the teams with banners flying left the field, their marching and technique being a credit to them. The surf races, bun-eating and obstacle races created considerable interest.
