DRUNKEN MOTORISTS
CONTRACTOR FINED £lO. (By Telegranh—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A fine of £lO was imposed on Herbert Denham, contractor, aged 44, when he appeared before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court Wellington, charged with having been intoxicated while in charge of a car in Johnsonville on February 6. Denham was ordered to pay court costs and his licence was cancelled for 12 months. LABOURER SENT TO GAOL. AUCKLAND, February 7. In the Magistrate’s Court today Joseph Albert Churches, aged 35, labourer, admitted intoxication in charge of a car in Ellerslie on January 21. It was stated that he had three previous convictions for the same type of offence, the last in 1931. Accused was sentenced to a fortnight’s jail and his licence was cancelled for two years. IMPRISONMENT FOR MAORI. NO LICENSE FOR SIX YEARS. HASTINGS, February 7. Pleading guilty to a third offence of intoxication while in charge of a mo-tor-car, Joseph Ripohau, of Pakipaki, was sentenced to two months’ jail by Mr J. Miller, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Hastings, today. Ripohau was prohibited for six years from holding a driver’s licence.
