TO KEEP COOL
A SUMMERTIME PROBLEM. Keeping cool in summer time is a problem which we all have to face, and .for which many of us have our own pet theories. Some women prefer a warm bath, others like iced water or fruit juice, whilst others prefer a cup of tea.
One of the best ways of keeping cool is with the liberal use of eau de cologne. If you are indoors doing housework, dip a linen bandage into the cologne water, and then tie it around the neck from the back, drawing the ends of the bandage towards the throat.
To be cool and fragrant you must keep perspiration in check. To be fresh and fragrant, and to save your clothes, you must use a good deodorant under your arm-pits. Use one which is mild and does not sting. When you have one which is suitable for your own particular skin, do not keep changing. There are excellent cream deodorants on the market which are dainty and fragrant, which vanish into the skin whilst you are dressing, and will keep you cool and free from worry for the rest of the day. They can also be applied to the feet without injury to the finest stockings.
Perspiration is a great destroyer of beauty, and it must always be guarded against. Even though you may think that you are not subject to any extent, you should still, as a safeguard, wash under the arm-pits thoroughly every day, and thickly powder with either a boracic or deodorant powder, or apply a cream or liquid deodorant whenever necessary.
Hands which are hot and perspiring can be kept in a more fragrant condition by bathing them frequently in water, in which has been dissolved a little alum.
Carry out some of these simple hints and you will then have the satisfaction of knowing that you will stay attractive and fragrant no matter how hot the day. Make-up during summer days is always a problem. A particularly effective method of keeping the face and throat cool is to use a cleansing lotion, rather than a cream, several times a day. Skin tonics have a cooling effect when first applied, but it is quite useless unless all make-up is first removsoap and water first thing in the morned. During summer you should use soap and water first thing in the morning. and then throughout the rest of the day a good cleansing agent should be used.
For your actual make-up a liquid foundation is often cooler than a cream, and even though it may be a trifle drying, it will be found that an emulsiontinted lotion is' nearly always ideal for all types of skin condition, because it calls for very little re-powdering. It is impossible to keep a fresh, cool complexion if the powder puff is resorted to too frequently.
