LONDON QUOTATIONS. CHEESE PRICES LOWER. A decline of 2s a cwt in the price of New Zealand salted butter in London occurred last week, the closing quotation being 122/1235. The latest price is, however, well .above that of a month ago, when the quotation was 117 s, and compares with 107 s to 108 s a year ago. According to the cabled report received by the Primary Products Marketing Department, and issued by the Dairy Board, the market closed firm after an active demand. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: —
New Zealand: Salted, 122 s to 123 s (124 s to 1255; a year ago, 107 s to 108 s); unsalted, 125 s to 126 s (126 s to 128 s; a year ago, 112 s). Australian: Salted. 119 s to 120 s (119 s to 120 s); unsalted, 121 s (122 s to 1235). Argentine: Unsalted, 112 s to 116 s (116 s Danish: 123 s f.0.b., 144 s to 145 s spot (116 s to 1375). Dutch: Unsalted, 123 s (1245). Lithuanian: Unsalted, 125 s (1255). Retail prices were unchanged last week. New Zealand at Is 3d and Danish at Is 5d a lb. The present price of 123 s a cwt is equal to approximately 14.35 d a lb. f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d a lb, f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d a cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 7.01 d a lb, f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week were 1268 tons. The quantity remaining in store on Friday was 5085 tons, as against 3788 tons a year ago.
Deliveries of Australian butter last week were 2032 tons, the quantity remaining in store being 6184 tons, as against 2626 tons a year ago.
The Imperial Economic Committee estimates the stocks of all butters in store at 766,070 boxes, as against 404,820 boxes a year ago.
The cheese market was steadier at the close on Friday, the price of New
Zealand at 67s a cwt, being Is to Is Gd lower on the week. Friday's closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: —
New Zealand: White. 67s (68s; a year ago. 68s); coloured. 67s (68s to 68s 6d; a year ago. 68s to 695.) Australian: White, 61s to 63s (61s to 645; coloured, 62s to 65s (64s to 665).
Canadian: White and coloured, 72s to 74s (72s to 745).
English: Finest Farmers. 86s to 96s (86s to 965).
The retail price of New Zealand cheese is unchanged at 9d a lb. Deliveries of New Zealand cheese from store last week were 13,000 crates. The quantity left in store on Friday was 47,133 crates, as against 44.589 crates a year ago. Canadian cheese in store with 124,538 boxes, compared with 105,198 boxes a year ago.
