COURSING
WAIRARAPA CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. APPLICATION FOR WATERLOO CUP FIXTURE.
Considerable enthusiasm was evident at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Coursing Club, which was held last night, the president, Mr J. Bradbury, being in the chair. A decision of some importance was that to make formal application for the holding of the New Zealand Waterloo Cup meeting this year in Masterton. From correspondence received it was probable that the club's application would be supported by a sufficient number of delegates to ensure its acceptance.
Arrangements were made for the tin hare racing events to be decided at the night show at Solway next week. Although only two events were to be de-
I cided it was pointed out that with heats and semi-finals a full evening’s racing would be provided. The indications were that many visiting dogs, trained to, night racing would be taking part and excellent contests were
assured. Nominations would close on Friday. It was agreed to follow up the events at the night show with a tin hare meeting to be held at the Solway Showgrounds on Saturday afternoon, February 25. Mr L. M. Archer, who had been secretary of the club for the past four years, resigned from that position on account of pressure of business. tributes were paid to Mr Archer’s excellent services and to his sound administrative ability. It was stated that the present favourable position of the club was largely due to his work. Members expressed deep regret that he had found it necessary to resign and it was decided to record appreciation of his services on the minutes and to elect him a vice-president and executive chairman, so that his active association with the club would still be retained.
It was pointed out that owing to tin hare racing the coursing events might be a little later in starting this year but it was considered that it would be an advantage, as it would allow greater Lime in which to get the hares in firstclass condition to face the dogs. A vote of thanks was passed with the relatives of the late Mr Payton. secretary of the New Zealand Coursing Association, who gave valuable assistance to the Wairarapa Club in 1937 during the running of the Waterloo Cup contest.
