MINIATURE RIFLES

PICNIC AT WESTERN LAKE.

MASTERTON CLUB MEMBERS HAVE ENJOYABLE DAY.

("Times-Age” Special.)

The members of the Masterton Miniature Rifle Club, at the invitation of Mr Norman Matthews, of the Wharepapa Rifle Club, held a shooting picnic on the latter’s range at the weekend. Favoured with ideal weather conditions a very pleasant day was spent by all amongst beautiful surroundings. Between ranges, swimming and tennis were indulged in and the day’s pleasantries were concluded with a most unorthodox baseball game. The shooting side of the programme consisted of 10 shots at 25 yards, 20 shots at 50 yards and 10 shots at 100 yards, the condition at the 100 yard radge being extremely difficult owing to a light changing wind. The highest score for the day was made by A. Bain, of the Wharepapa Club, with a total of 378, with J. Curtin, of Masterton, a point behind.

Masterton members were loud in their praise of the range site and equipment provided by the enthusiastic owner, Mr Matthews. ' Following are the scores: — Wharepapa: A. Bain 378; K. Hyland 364; J. Feist 364; W. Johnson 362; A. Turner 353; N. Matthews 348; Total 2,169.

Masterton: J. W. Curtin 377; J. Bouzaid 376; H. King 375; H. K. Smith 374; Mrs King 374; P. Russell 373; Total, £249.
