WOMEN'S DIVISION. MEETING AT TIRAUMEA. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the February meeting of the Tiraumea Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs J. Olsen, Mrs McKenzie, Mrs C. Raleigh, and Misses E. Wallis and R. Jewitt. The hostesses were Mrs Hansen and the Misses Hansen and Curtis. Mrs S. K. Raleigh gave a very interesting and instructive demonstration on the making of flower posies and shoulder sprays and Mrs Wallis proposed a vote of thanks to her which was carried by acclamation. The competition for the March meeting is to be the prettiest posy. Mrs Hansen obliged with songs during the afternoon.
The competition for the best oven cloth was won by Miss G. Harman, with Mrs Harman, Junr., second. The best bloom in the garden was won by Mrs Harman, Senr., with Miss G. Harman second. The hostesses for the March meeting will be Mrs D. Jewitt, Mrs Hislop and Miss R. Jewitt. Mrs Scott Raleigh was the winner of the lucky competition. Personal. Miss Patricia Doherty, of Alfredton Road, Eketahuna, was successful at the Diploma Written examinations conducted in December by the Trinity College of Music. Mr Colin L. Bailey, M.A., who was for a lime engaged in relieving work at the Eketahuna District High School, has been appointed to fill the position of lecturer in Education at Victoria University College.
I CRICKET COMPETITION CLOSED. | PAHIATUA WIN SHIELD. A meeting of the Bush Cricket Association was held last night, there being present Messrs Smythe (chairman), Cobb, Murch, Montgomery, Robinson, Higginson, Kendall, Matson, Jenson, Vile, and Barraclough. It was decided to play tire Dannevirke juniors (holders) for the W. A. Pickard Shield on Saturday next, the Bush team to be as follows:—C. Gallon (capt.), D. Signal, W. Jensen, F. Robinson, H. Higginson, B. Murch, Dungan, J. McKay, K. C. Montgomery, F. Fredericksen, C. C. Smythe, R. Mills. Mr Smythe was appointed player-manager. It was decided to close the cricket competition as from Saturday last. The Pahiatua Club won the championship with 25 points. Eketathuna came next with 11 points, then Mangamaire, 9 points, and Pahiatua Fire Brigade 6 points. It was decided to hold a supplementary competition for a trophy, the matches to commence on February 25. It was decided to. play a North v South match at Mangamaire on February 18. Welcome Rain. Last night fairly heavy rain fell for 'a period and was welcomed by the farming community. A good twentyfour hours rain is needed to do any appreciable good to pastures which are very dry.
Earthquake Shocks.
Two distinct earthquake shocks were felt in Eketahuna about 2.15 o’clock yesterday morning.
Croquet Match.
At Eketahuna on Saturday the Pahiatua croquet players defeated the Mauriceville team.
