Four rinks played on the Carterton green on Saturday afternoon, the scores and players being as follow: —Porter, Moran, Hawker, Bain (s) beat Savill, Gaze, Budd, W. Steven (s) 21/16; J. Spooner, Pink, Nicolson, De Lacey (s) beat Dudson, Potter, Kilmister, Whyte (s) 28/18; J. Beaven, Matson, Harris (s) beat Boyne, Campbell, Simmonds (s) 19/16; Hill, Kruse, Tucker (s) beat Bath, Newbould, Hughan (s) 32/14. CROQUET. PARTON BROOCHES. An interesting game of croquet was played on Saturday, when Mesdame Savill and Hawker were the winners of the Parton Brooches. BOOTH CUP AND SHIELD. TABLE OF GAMES. The following is the result of the Booth Cup and Shield games to date with one more match to play: Featherston 3 wins and a draw, 3| points; Carterton, 2 wins and 2 draws, 3 points;
Greytown 1 win, 2 draws and a loss, 2 points; Masterton, 2 wins and 2 losses, 2 points; Martinborough,2 draws and 2 losses, 1 point; Park, 1 draw and 3 losses, J points. There is another game to play. CRICKET. PARKVALE v MATARAWA. In a cricket match at the weekend, the Parkvale team defeated Matarawii at Matarawa by one run in a one innings match. The scores were: Parkvale 84, Matarawa 83. For Parkvale Walker (21), William (20), Thompson (16), and Gryson (14) were the chief scorers and for Matarawa Berry (22), Ticchurst (16) and L. Gallon (11). Bowling for Matarawa Berry took 5 wickets for 12 runs and Ticehurst 1 for 5; for Park-
vale A Ward 3 for 18, Gryson 3 for 20 and Williams 1 for 4. CHAMPION HOLSTEINS. MR PARKER'S SHOW SUCCESSES. Mr Martin Parker, Dalefield, was very successful with his Holstein cattle at the Woodville Show on Saturday. The competition was good and Mr Parker’s successes included two championships, two reserve champions, eight firsts, 3 seconds and one third prize. Railway Excursion. A number of Carterton and surrounding district residents went by the excursion train to Napier yesterday and spent a most enjoyable day in the northern town. Personal. Mr C. M. Whyte, of the Rataehi Post Office, accompanied by Mrs Whyte and family, is visiting Carterton on a fortnight’s holiday and are- the guests of Mr Whyte’s sisters. Mr H. M. B. Trapp will take up his duties as Secretary to the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society next week. Mr and Mrs W. L. Knutson left Carterton this morning for a holiday in the Marlborough Sounds. Mr Knutson’s war injuries are again troubling him and acting upon medical advice he has gone for a change of air to the Sounds for a fortnight. 1
