ACTIVITIES IN MASTERTON.
ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY.
The annual report of the St Vincent de Paul Society (St Patrick’s Conference), Masterton, states that the total amount distributed for the year ended December 31, 1938, was £256. The purchase of groceries accounted for £39 3s 7, fuel £l2 8s 9d, clothing £l6 13s 6d, meals and clothing £8 9s, hospitals £75 Ils, cash relief £3B ss, grant to Ladies’ Auxiliary £2O, administration £5 Ils 2d, miscellaneous assistance £25.
The Society’s activities include the following: Families relieved 96, persons (includes casuals) 173, visits to poor 84, visits to hospitals 114, persons interviewed at hospital 1594, grocery orders given 61, fuel 23, clothing 10, cash relief 17, miscellaneous orders 6, tobacco distributed as hospital 7130z5, oranges distributed at hospital 118 dozen. A grant of £l3 10s was obtained from Hunter Trust for a distressed family. A benefit concert held for a distressed family netted £75.
