WAIRARAPA BEAT MANAWATU. KEEN CONTEST AT MASTERTON ON SATURDAY. Keen rivalry was in evidence on the Masterton Bowling Club's green on Saturday afternoon when sixteen rinks from the Manawatu Centre tried conclusions with the Wairarapa representatives. Wairarapa won’ by nine matches to six, one match being drawn. The aggregate points were Wairarapa 384; Manawatu 348. The visitors were welcomed on arrival at the green by Mr F. J. Smith, president, and the Rev W. F. Stent, secretary of the Wairarapa Centre. Led by Mr J. A. Nash, the visitors gave a rousing response with a haka, songs, etc.

Following on the conclusion of play on Saturday morning, the visitors were entertained at luncheon at the Prince of Wales Hotel by the Wairarapa Centre.

PLAY AT CARTERTON. SOUTH WAIRARAPA MATCH. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturaay morning, six rinks of bowlers from the Manawatu Centre visited Carterton and defeated South Wairarapa on the aggregate score by 102 to 81.

The visitors were given a hearty welcome by Mr W. C. Robertson, president of the Carterton Club. Mr Stent, secretary of the Wairarapa Centre, also spoke and mentioned the fact that the visit was the second which had been made in February, and expressed a wish’ that it would always be held in February. He detailed the arrangements that had been made for the visitors, and hoped they would have a pleasant time while in the Wairarapa. Mr A. Cooksley, on behalf of the Manawatu Centre, acknowledged the welcome extended by Mr Robertson, and the remarks made by Mr Stent.
