MAIN HIGHWAY. IMPROVEMENT At TARATAHI. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Wairarapa South County workmen are at present grading and banking the corner of the Main Highway north near the Taratahi Hotel. The spoil which is being removed from the eastern side water table is being used to bank the corner near the hotel. These improvements tend to greater safety on sharp corners on the Main Highway. This work is being done by the county workmen under the supervision of the Main Highways Board. Work in Carrington District. Wairarapa County Council employees are now employed on the Upper Carrington Road near Messrs Clark and Hobson’s properties. The roadway at this point winds round the hill side and is very narrow. CARTERTON FOOTBALL CLUB. DIAMOND JUBILEE. There was a good attendance at the special general meeting of the Carterton Football Club, when consideration was given to the suggestion that the club should celebrate its Diamond Jubilee this season. The president, Mr A. E. Reid, presided, and in his opening remarks mentioned that other clubs had observed their jubilees in fitting manner, and there was no reason why Carterton should not do so. The club had been in existence since July 5 sixty years ago. Mr E. McKenzie said that the suggestion was commendable, and moved that the jubilee be observed this season. This was seconded by Mr A. E. Hall and carried unanimously.

Mr H. J. McKenzie mentioned that it would be necessary to appoint various committees and gave a brief outline of his ideas as to the gathering of necessary details for the souvenir booklet. Mr McKenzie was appointed jubilee secretary, and Mr H. McPhee, of Greytown, is to be asked to edit the booklet. , Emphasis was given to the fact that it would be necessary to proceed with the sale of badges at an early date so that an expense fund could be established, and Messrs E. McKenzie, H. J. McKenzie, A. E. Hall, W. A. Hart, G. Udy and A. E. Reid were appointed a committee to deal with the matter.

After;, a long discussion as to the best date for the jubilee it was finally decided to hold it on July 8, 9 and 10. Another special general meeting will be held in a month’s time, when final details will be considered and committees appointed.
