CINEMAS POPULAR

SURVEY OF THE INDUSTRY IN CANADA. TORONTO. Canadians are ardent cinema enthusiasts, as is shown by a recent govern-’ ment survey of the industry in the Dominion in 1937. During the year there was a total attendance of 134.374,061 and box-office receipts of 32,499,300 dollars, increases of 5.4 per cent and 9.8 per cent respectively. The number of permanently equipped theatres in operation in Canada was 1,047, an increase of 88 during the year. This does not take into account the 39 itinerant shows playing onenight stands in the outlying districts. It has been calculated that in 1937

there was one cinema theatre to every

10,620 persons, with one theatre to every 10.620 persons, with one theatre seat to every 18 persons.
