GREYTOWN

TOWN LANDS TRUST. \ MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Town Lands Trust was held on Thursday night, there being present Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), W. H. Day, H. Walden, E. Graham, H. J. Nightingale, and the secretary (Mr B. Kiernan). An apology for absence was received from Mr F. Dennes. The annual grant to the Public Library was applied for by the Town Clerk. A grant of £6O was made, and it was decided to point out to the Library Committee that the Trust expected its grant to be used for the purchase of literature and not for general expenses. A grant of £2O is to be made to the Memorial Park, when a statement of the receipts for the grazing of sheep on the Park is supplied to the Trust. It was pointed out that the grant to the Park was originally made so as to keep the Park as clean as possible.

The Trust solicitors submitted a list of sections to be leased. The date for the auction was fixed at March 13. The leases are for terms of seven years.

It was decided to repair the present side fence at the Plunket Rooms or subsidise the erection of a new ornamental fence.

The offer of Messrs C. E. Daniell, Ltd., was accepted for the cutting and taking away of 20 pinus insignus and 16 bluegum trees on the eastern side of the Recreation Reserve. Vital Statistics. The vital statistics for Greytown for January are: —Births 4, deaths 1, marriages 1. Personal Items. Mr J. Lane and Miss Askew have joined the staff of the Greytown District High School. Mr I. Tregurtha, of the Post Office staff, left today on his annual holidays. Swimming Carnival. At the swimming carnival on Monday night a strong Masterton contingent will be among the competitors.. Four New Zealand champion lady swimmers will make their appearance at the sports. The club has been allotted the 880 yards Wellington Centre championship.
