PERSONAL ITEMS. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mr and Mrs W. Simpson, .of Hinakura, have returned from a motor tour of the Tauranga district. Mr Heffernan, of the Hinakura'Post Office, has been transferred to Taihape. He is being succeeded by Mr C. Shelley, of Halcombe. Mr and Mrs R. F. Mitchell, of Bush Gully, are Hinakura visitors to the Collins —Blundell wedding in Wellington. -
Mr T. Benton is an inmate of Greytown Hospital where he underwent an operation for appendicitis. Miss K. and B. Hayman, who have been spending several weexs with their parents, left for the Lower Hutt today where they will spend a couple of days before returning to Nelson.
Motor Truck on Fire. The fire alarm was given this morning at 5.30 a.m. when a motor truck belonging to Mr Lawrence Boyd was discovered on fire in a shed in the yard of the Club Hotel. The cab had been burnt and the shed was on fire, but the brigade arrived and quickly put it out. New Justices of the Peace. 1 Two Martinborough names appear in the list of Justices of the Peace announced this morning. They are Miss Jessie Hibberd and Mr N. C. D. Mason. Both are very well known and popular residents in this town, Miss Hibberd having been on the staff of Messrs Gawith, Biss and Griffiths, solicitors, for over 25 years, and Mr Mason has been an accountant here for the last 10 years. A Strange Visitor. A strange visitor to the beach at Pahaua last weekend was a baby penguin. It was discovered on Sunday afternoon but only lived till Monday.
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. GARDEN PARTY YESTERDAY. The February meeting of the Women’s Institute was held as a garden party at Mrs S. Davidson’s yesterday afternoon, there being a fair attendance of members and visitors. Nominations were received for the position of president and members of the committee, and will finally close on February 16. During the afternoon various competitions were competed, the winners being as follows: —Quoits: Mr McKenna; nail-driving, Mrs Shanks; clock golf, Mrs Oberam; balloon blowing, Mona Davidson; target croquet, Mrs Hamilton; lucky number, Mrs Lamb Senr.; best flower in the garden, Mrs Boyd 1, Mrs Tyler 2. There was one stall, which did brisk business. Afternoon tea was served and a very pleasant afternoon was then brought to a close.
