JAPANESE VERSION

LATEST BORDER CLASH WITH SOVIET

ONLY RUSSIAN CASUALTIES.

PROTEST MADE TO MOSCOW

By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) TOKIO, February 2.

The Japanese version of the clash on February 1 alleges that one hundred Soviet troops crossed the frontier and attacked a Japanese station, which resisted. The Soviet troops retired after a loss of five killed and three wounded. The Japanese suffered no casualties. The Japanese Government has strongly protested to the Soviet.

A Russian communique received yesterday stated that seven Japanese were killed and wounded and a Russian officer wounded in a clash on the Manchurian frontier on January 31. A battle with machine-guns resulted from an unsuccessful attempt by the Japanese to occupy an island in the Argun River, near the mouth of the Guran tributary. Russia has sent a Note to Japan protesting against Japanese cases of violation of Soviet territory and warning Japan against the possible consequences.
