Lord Strabolgi, the British Labour peer, who recently visited New Zealand, told journalists today that he took a serious view of the European, situation. "I want Australia and New Zealand," he said "to become strong, self-contained and self-reliant, because, .if we in England are destroyed, you will have to carry on the British tradition.” He added that Britain could release five or six capital ships to aid the Commonwealth, and Australia should at dll costs provide suitable dock accommodation.
