GREYTOWN

RIFLE SHOOTING. INGLEY CUP COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The competition for the Ingley Cup was carried a further stage on Saturday afternoon. The ranges were 500 and 600 yards, ten shots at each distance. President G. Te Whaiti was again at the top of the list with 48 at 500yds and 49 at 600yds, dropping only three points off the possible. At the 500 yards 48’s were registered by H. R. Feast, D. J. Flynn and H. W. Feast. J. Yoemans scored a good 47 at 600yds. The following are the scores: —

Bowling. Greytown met Masterton in the Booth Cup and Duthie Shield competition on Saturday. For the Duthie Shield the Greytown rink, Brunton, Burden, Nightingale, Dennes (s) defeated Gordon, Gleeson, Roberts, Christian (s), 26/16. In the Booth Cup games, played at Greytown, Wallace, Curtis, McLeod, Vile (s) beat Campbell, Skeet, Hendry, Morton (s), 24/18. Brown, Allison, Bunny, Carter (s) beat Read, Carstens, Hayne, Taylor (s), 26/18. Personal Items. Mrs H. G. Carter and family have returned from a holiday spent at Auckland. Mr R. P. Anker will again join the staff of the Greytown School on February 1. Motor Car Accident. A sedan motor-car, owned by Mr A. Stuart, and driven by Mr J. Smith, skidded on the Main Road near Ahikouka on Saturday, afternoon.. The car overturned and was badly damaged. No one was hurt. Call to a Fire. The Grey town Fire Brigade received a call at 1 p.m. on Saturday to a small fire at Mrs W. Smith’s residence in Humphries Street. The services of the brigade were not required, however, as the outbreak was suppressed before they reached the house.
