TAR SEALING OPERATIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) A large number of workmen under the Main Highways Board are at present engaged re-sealing a portion of the road between the Freezing Works corner to Middleton. Car owners should go slowly over the section to save getting their machines bespattered with road oil and tar. Bowling Competitions. In a colts’ handicap singles game on Thursday. Boyne defeated Porter. 26/12. Two rinks of Carterton bowlers will play a similar number of rinks at Tinui next week-end. Borough Council Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held on Tuesday next. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs J. Johnston returned to Carterton yesterday after a honeymoon tour of the South Island. Mr Johnston will take up duties at the Carterton Railway Station. Mr and Mrs Johnston’s home will be in Wyndham Street. Mr and Mrs R. T. Forbes and daughter, left Carterton today on a holiday which will be spent at Raumati Beach. Mr Forbes will be relieved at the Tivoli Theatre during his absence by Mr Roy Tansley, of Wellington. Mr. Robert J. Grimmer, who met
with an accident recently, is at present nursing a badly injured left arm. „ Messrs W. Howard Booth, Carterton, and Geo. E. Allen, Taipua, Maslerton, judged 'Southdown and Romney sheep, respectively, at the Levin Agricultural Show yesterday. Sheep and Lambs. Large numbers of sheep and lambs are still being railed from the Carterton Station to the Gear freezing works, and yesterday a very large consignment was despatched. “Sports” Rejpice. Local “sports” were very jubilant yesterday when the locally trained Kurrawong won the maiden race at Pahiatua. Mr. G. Neich’s horse ran good races at both Tauherenikau and Wellington meetings and he looked a good tmng for Pahiatua. Successful Breeder. Mr Ken G. Fairbrother, of Dalefield, had a very successful run with his Friesian cattle at the Marton Show last Wednesday. He obtained one champion, five first prizes, two reserve champions, three thirds and two second awards. Mr Fairbrother will show his stock at Eeilding Show next week. Show Exhibits. Messrs Les. S. Gallon and Martin Parker, of Dalefield, will''leave next week with their purebred Friesian cattle for exhibition at a circuit of shows. The stock will be at Woodville next Saturday, Dannevirke on Tuesday, with Pahiatua and Masterton to follow. Mr Cedric Knutson will have his Friesians at the Dannevirke Show. Trotting Permit. As the result of the Wairarapa Trotting Club handing in one of its two permits, the result of unsatisfactory weather at Christmas time, the New Zealand Trotting Conference has allocated it to the Wellington Trotting Club for use this season. School Picnic. Although the children in the Matarawa district are pupils of the Greytown District High School, they are always entertained at a picnic of their own and this annual function will take place at the Grey town Park (formerly O'Connor's Bush) on Tuesday next.
