CROQUET TOURNAMENT

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS.

DOUBLE TO CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., January 27. Orthodox but stylish play was seen in the Dominion croquet championships, which were continued in Palmerston North today in fine and overcast weather. Good progress has been made in all events, and the tournament will finish either next Tuesday or Wednesday. The finals of three events were reached today, Mrs Hill (Feilding) playing splendid croquet to beat Mrs McCreath (Gore) in two games. In the first game in particular, the players put up a good exhibition, Mrs Hill having the better run of play. She was right on top in the second game. Double success came to Penn (Christchurch), who beat Bryan (Wellington) and McClymont (Wanganui) respectively in the first and second life finals of the men’s championship. Bryan strongly contested every stroke in one of the hardest games of the tournament, but McClymont failed to get going against a superior tactician and player.
