NAVAL EXPANSION

ON UNPRECEDENTED SCALE BRITAIN’S BIG PROGRAMME BATTLESHIPS TO BE LAUNCHED ‘ THIS YEAR. ' By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 1.45 p.m.) LONDON, January 27. Lord Stanhope in an article in “Home and Empire” said: “Our superiority in battleships will be materially increased within three years. No other power is equalling British naval expansion, which is unprecedented for a peacetime scale. An average of over one ship is being added per week. Included are seven battleships, twenty-one cruisers, twenty-nine destroyers, twenty-five submarines and five aircraft carriers, giving the fleet four hundred vessels. Four of the seven battleships are being launched this year.”
