MARCH ON PRAGUE
UNEASY ANTICIPATIONS IN AUSTRIA CONCENTRATION OF GERMAN TROOPS. PRESSURE ON CZECHOSLOVAKIA SUGGESTED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, January 26. The “Daily Herald” says that heavy concentrations of German troops in various parts of Austria are causing alarm on the frontier. Farms have been evacuated and patrols have taken up strategical positions. It is reported from Vienna that ali Germans of military age have been forbidden to leave the country. It is felt in some quarters that this may be the prelude to a “march on Prague” in order to impress on the Czechs the urgency of closer co-ordination with the German political system. The Berlin correspondent of the “News Chronicle” asks, “Is Germany preparing for inflation?” and states that, after Dr Schacht’s dismissal, the Reichsbank printed currency notes valued at £330,000,000 without backing. The purpose of this is uncertain. JAN MASARYK CRITICISM OF THE CZECH GOVERNMENT. FOREIGN OFFICE CONSIDERING ACTION. (Received This Day, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, January 26. The London “Telegraph’s” Prague correspondent says it is officially stated that the Czech Foreign Office is investigating appropriate action against M. Jan Masaryk, for a reported interview with the “New York Times” on January 1, when he said: “I would rather live as a simple citizen in a decent German province than as King of Fascist Czechoslovakia, where it is understood a wild Government is behaving badly.” FINANCIAL TALKS. ANNOUNCEMENT EXPECTED IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 10.30 a.m.) •RUGBY, January 26. It is generally expected that the Anglo-Czech financial conversations will conclude tomorrow and that an announcement will be made.
