MIDNIGHT STRUGGLE
AT DUNEDIN PETROL STATION DARING ATTEMPT AT ARMED HOLD-UP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN. January 27. A daring attempt at an armed holdup at the Safety Parking Petrol Station in the centre of the city occurred shortly before midnight. It was foiled when the intended victim, Mr James Todd, night attendant at the station, grappled with his assailant, who escaped. Mr Todd suddenly felt a revolver pressed in the small of his back. At the same time he was ordered to “Stick ’em up.” He swung round and grappled with his assailant, seizing the revolver by the barrel with his left hand. The assailant pulled the trigger, but the revolver did not go off. After a brief struggle the man wrenched himself free and dashed off with the revolver still in his possession. Mr Todd received a gash on the back of his hand from the revolver sights. The police were notified immediately but in spite of a thorough search no arrest had been made this morning.
