STAFF FAREWELL

PRESENTATION TO MISS N. RUTHERFORD. The companionship of the “Wairarapa Times-Age” gathered "round the stone” this morning to make a presentation to Miss N. Rutherford, a member of the staff, who is leaving to be married tomorrow to Mr A. Southey. In presenting Miss Rutherford with a handsome brass wood box from the staff and a cheque from the directors of the “Wairarapa Times-Age” Company, Mr D. M. Graham, general manager, said: “We have met in order to express our deep regret at the loss the companionship sustains through the departure of Miss Rutherford and to wish her the greatest happiness in her wedded life. Through her outstanding ability and charming personality Miss Rutherford has earned the admiration and deep respect of us all. I am sure old Mr Punch, had he known our friend here, would never —when he gave his famous advice to those about to get married—have used the cynical word ‘Don’t.’ I now hand you, Miss Rutherford, some tangible evidence of your fellow employees’ feelings toward you and in doing so voice the hope that it may assist towards many good times.”

Mr E. J. Brown-, manager, said that he wished to endorse Mr Graham’s remarks. He paid a tribute to the ability and tact Miss Rutherford had always shown in carrying out her duties while in the employ of the ■Wairarapa Age” and later as a member of the staff of the "Wairarapa Times-Age.” He wished Miss Rutherford happiness and prosperity in her future life, and it was a pleasing fact that though she was to be married she would not be leaving Masterton. He assured her that she would always receive a warm welcome whenever she visited the office she was now leaving. Miss Rutherford suitably acknowledged the remarks of Messrs Graham and Brown, and cheers for Miss Rutherford brought the function to a close.
