GREYTOWN
MAGISTRATE’S COURT SITTING. (“Times-Age’’ Special.) A sitting of the Greytown Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. The Transport Department proceeded against William Broughton, of Martinborough, for driving a motor vehicle not equipped with a proper footbrake. Defendant was convicted and fined £l, with costs 10s. Joseph Donovan, of Masterton, was charged with carrying on a goods service otherwise than in conformity with the conditions of his licence. He was convicted and fined £l, with costs 10s. Joseph Miller was convicted and fined £l, with costs 10s, for riding a motor cycle without a proper silencer. James Kerr Foss, Featherston, was convicted and fined 10s and costs 10s for having no warrant of fitness for his car. CIVIL CASE. J. E. Olliver, of Greytown, proceeded against W. P. Calcinai, of the Transport Department, in a claim for damages to a motor truck which resulted from a collision at Greytown. The amount claimed was £134 ss. After hearing the evidence judgment was given for defendant and costs £6 14s. Mr H. Lawson appeared for Olliver and Mr C. C. Marsack for Calcinai. Personal. Mr and Mrs E. G. Thomas, who have been the guests of Mr H. Walden for the holidays, returned to Wellington on Wednesday. Mr R. Thomas, of Moroa, who has been in the Masterton Hospital for an X-ray examination, has returned to the Greytown Hospital. Trotting Activities. A special meeting of the stewards of the Wairarapa Trotting Club was held at Greytown to appoint delegates to meet the stewards of the Wellington Trotting Club in respect to future operations of the club. A general meeting of members will be held next week when the position of the club will be placed before them.
