The Australian Associated Press says Whitehall is shocked by the news that Italy is recalling reservists, for which it is unable to find a reasonable explanation. France must regard the recall as coming seriously close to an act of aggresThe class called up, according to official information,' consists mainly of business men, upon whom there would hardlv be a call unless Italy were envisaging a major crisis. It is suggested that Italy’s sudden translation of threats into action explains Dr Schacht's removal. Italy’s economic position would not enable her to. launch a war unaided and it is certain that Dr Schacht did not consider that Ger’many’s position justified an assurance of assistance to Italy.
