POLICE AND BY-LAW CASES

Mr H. P. Lawry. S.M.. presided at the fortnightly sitting of the Masterton Magistrate's Court, held today. On a charge of having driven a motor-car without due care and attention. W. G. Truscott was convicted and fined £3 and 17s 6d costs. Failing to give way to traffic on his right when approaching an intersection, Francis Vincent Siemonek was fined £1 and 10s costs. B. J. Kellaheil was fined 10s and 10s costs for driving a car without a warrant of fitness. A fine of 10s and 10s costs was imposed on Raymond Elwyn Gardner, who pleaded guilty to driving a motorcar without a licence.

For riding a motor-cycle without a licence, David Eric Miller was fined £1 and 10s costs.

“He refused to stop when called up and was cheeky and insolent," stated the police when referring to a charge against John Kelly of riding a bicycle at night without a light. He was fined £1 and 10s costs.

For having no radio licences, Alister MacDonald was fined 10s and 10s costs, C. J. Mitchell 10s’ and 10 costs and Henry Arthur Stimpson £1 and 10s costs.

Convicted of failing to drive a motor vehicle with due care and attention Horace Goodman was fined £3 and 10s costs.

Walter Hodges was convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs and £1 Is solicitor’s fee on a charge of failing to comply with an order requiring him to cut down inflammable vegetation. “When asked for his licence he produced a 1936 one.” stated Senior-Ser-geant G. A. Doggett when Jack Potangaroa was convicted and fined 10s and 10s costs for driving a motor-car without a driver’s licence.

On a charge of driving without due care and attention, James Marshall (Mr J. K. Logan) was convicted and ordered to pay witnesses’ expenses, £2 9s 2d and court costs 13s.

For breaches of the Transport Act, J. R. Donovan was fined £1 and 10s costs on one charge and 10s and 10s cost on each of two other charges.
