CIANO’S MISSION
REPORTS OF IMPENDING ALLIANCE. ITALY AND YUGOSLAVIA. (Received This Day, 11.25 a.m.) ROME, January 23. The far-reaching importance of Count Ciano’s visit to Belgrade is revealed by a disclosure that negotiations arc proceeding for a military alliance between Yugoslavia and Italy. Italy has granted 500 million lire credits for the purchase of Italian armaments and plans are under way to build a factory at Belgrade to produce tanks, aeroplanes and motor trucks. Count Ciano effected a HungarianRumanian rapproachment and reconciled Yugoslavia aiid Rumania. His trip not only knits the Balkan bloc closer to the axis, but wipes out the last vestiges of French influence in the Balkans.
