POLICE RAIDS
FOLLOWING ON BOMBING OUTRAGES SEIZURE OF DOCUMENTS IN MANCHESTER. TOBACCONIST IN COURT AT LIVERPOOL. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) LONDON. January 24. Thirty detectives and ten car-loads jf police carried out massed raids on houses in Manchester throughout the night. It is believed that they seized documents relating to bombing. Thomas Kelly,, a tobacconist, was remanded till February 1 at Liverpool, when he was charged with being in possession of four lOOcwt kegs of potassium chlorate, for an unlawful purpose. which he received from John Healy. The police in evidence stated that the kegs were not found in Kelly's possession but traces of potassium adhered to some bags found on his premises.
Appearing at the Bow Street Police Court, London, on January 20, an Irishman, John Healy, aged 40, was remanded in custody till January 26 m a charge of being in possession, for an unlawful purpose, of two tons of potassium chlorate and a ton of black oxide of iron. TWO GIRLS CHARGED. ‘ LONDON, January 23. Mary and Nora Gleen, sisters, aged 22 and 18, were remanded at Manchester today on a charge of being unlawfully in possession of a barrel of potassium chlorate, a hundredweight of black iron oxide, two Mills bombs, 19 sticks of gelignite, 10 electric detonators and rtn alarm clock fitted with an electric connection.
