EXODUS OF REFUGEES ANTICIPATED IN FRANCE REINFORCEMENT OF FRONTIER GUARDS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. PARIS, January 24. France is reinforcing the frontier guards in expectation of a stampede of refugees from Barcelona. An exodus of between a million and a half and two million is expected after the fall of Barcelona, in which there are elements whose entry France regards as undesirable, while not wanting to be inhospitable to those being persecuted. Consequently it is not expected that the frontier will be hermetically sealed. The alternatives envisaged are the creation of concentration camps or the reception of a number of refugees on board ship, after which they would be
conveyed to African territory pending settlement. The authorities are investigating a derailment near Cerebere on the Catalonian frontier where the line was torn up at the station shortly before a consignment of flour was due to pass from France to the republicans.
