MATCH AT PETONE. PETONE v. M ASTERTON-OP AKI. Eighteen members of the MastertonOpaki Rifle Club journeyed to Trantham on Saturday, and in the morning fired a match with Pctone over the 500 and 600 yards ranges. After a close contest, Petone won by 6 points, mainly owing to outstanding scores by W. H. Ballinger and D. E. Cameron. Conditions wore very easy’ at 500 yards, but a bad fishtail wind at 600 yards, with quick changes, made shooting difficult. On account of lack of time, several members of both teams were unable to shoot at 600 yards. In the afternoon, Opaki members had a useful shoot under coaching conditions at 900 yards, and found shooting harder than in the morning. The fishtail wind proved more tricky, and was Trantham at its worst.
The thanks of the Masterton-Opaki Club are due to Petone for an enjoyable day. The following are the individual scores of the ten-a-side teams:-—
