FEATHERSTON
LIBRARIAN'S REPORT. (“Times-Aae” Special.) The following report was submitted by the librarian to the ordinary meeting of the Library Institute: —Since my last report Mr Michell, of the Country Library Department. Wellington, visited Featherston Library with a collection of books. Several members of your committee were in attendance and assisted in choosing 150 books, comprising fiction and nonfiction. Mr Michell gave valuable help in going through the old books and setting aside those that were to be retained. Subscribers were advised to return all books in their possession so that the new system could be completed with as little delay as possible. Mrs Shepherd and I paid a visit to the Country Library Department, Wellington, and interviewed Mr Alley to get information on several points that were not quite clear, Mr Alley offered the assistance of a member of his staff, which was accepted. Miss Wright came to Featherston on the 12th inst, and made the following recommendations: —(a) Receipt books are necessary for fines on overdue books, and also bespoken books. Fines, 3d per week or part thereof, or 6d- if tvvo weeks overdue on book, (b) One book to be issued to an adult in the borough after filling in the form required, (c) Several small trays will be needed to hold cards and pockets. (d) It is necessary to decide the number of books country members are to be allowed. The carpenters have finished the alterations to the shelves in the lending room, and the painting and paperhanging will be finished shortly. Great praise is due to Mrs Shepherd, who has given up days and evenings to help in getting the library in order as soon as possible.
