The death has occurred at Ballance of Mr Thomas Jones, at the age of 83 years.

The Rev J. M. Simpson, of Masterton, was a weekend visitor to Pahiatua, where he was the guest of Mr and Mrs G. Ancell.

Mr John Harcourt, manager of the Masterton branch of Macduff’s, Ltd., has been promoted to the position of manager of the Christchurch branch. Mr Harcourt will probably be leaving for the south early this week. Mr W. J. Rogers, Mayor of Wanganui, who underwent an operation some weeks ago and has lately been on a health-recruiting tri, spent the weekend in Masterton. Mr Rogers is much improved in health. The Hon P. Fraser, Minister of Marine, is attending a conference in the Auckland Town Hall today to discuss a proposal to form a boat harbour at Okahu Bay, Orakei. He will leave Auckland tonight on his return to Wellington. Dr R. L. McMaster, of Los Angeles, and formerly of Masterton, has been selected together with four other American doctors for service in the Government hospital in Mexico City. Dr McMaster is a son of Mrs J. M. Simpson, of Church Street, Masterton. Mr J. Harry Lang. San Francisco, who recently did the preliminary organisation work for the £300,000 centenary fund of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa on Friday with Mrs Lang. They will spend three weeks in the Dominion before Mr Lang goes to Australia to organise finance for the Young Men’s Christian Associations in Sydney. Brisbane and Adelaide. He will probably return to the Dominion later. The death has occurred in her eighty-first year, at her residence, Kilbirnie, of Mrs Ellen Tilyard, widow of Mr Joseph Tilyard and the mother of a family several of whom were well-known in Wellington and Now Zealand representative Rugby. Mrs Tilyard leaves six sons and seven daughters. The sons are Messrs Jim Tilyard (captain of the New Zealand Rugby team which visited Australia in 1920). Fred Tilyard (1923 All Black), C. F. Tilyard (Wellington Rugby representative), Harry Tilyard (Wellington Rugby representative), and Messrs William and J. C. Tilyard. The daughters are Mesdames L. de Jaunay (Auckland), A. M. Griffiths (Khandallah, mother of the All Black Mr J. L. Griffiths). A. Hutton (Napier), A. Jacobsen (Wellington), J. Wilson (Wellington), M. McKenzie (Khandallah), and T. Russell (Khanda'llah).
