FASHION NOTES

WHAT FILM STARS WEAR. Joan Crawford, Metro-Golwyn-Mayer star, wears shorts and blouse of tan sharkskin, the blouse simply tailored. The shorts feature a curved, stitched band running from the belt to either side, forming tiny front pockets. A patch pocket is worn on the right hip. Hedy Lamarr wears a knife pleated skirt, very full, of black silk crepe with a very sheer white blouse, which is collarless. A flat band fits the neckline closely, from which gathering allows for great fullness of the blouse. Sleeves are long and very full, caught tightly with a wrist-band. The Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer actress wears a very wide belt of red suede and a barbaric choker of red stones.

Virginia Grey, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer player, introduces straw and wood jewellery for the beach. She wears a bracelet and necklace of brightly coloured raffia, with dangles of coloured wood.

Pale pink souffle was chosen by Una Merkel, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer player, in an evening gown designed by Hattie Carnegie. The bodice is fitted and buttons down the front with cyclamen buttons. The skirt is bouffant, with hemline bordered with tiny rows of pink lace. A sash of cyclamon taffeta is worn at the normal waistline, and ties in back with a huge butterfly bow and long streamers.
