CARTERTON

WAIRARAPA PIPE BAND. MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Scottish Pipe Band it was decided to obtain price lists of piping requisites from various sources with a view to bringing the band equipment up to the required standard. A small committee was set up to arrange a programme for canvassing Carterton, and later other towns and the country districts of South Wairarapa for funds to obtain uniforms and other necessary equipment. A considerable amount of money will be required for this purpose, but it is confidentlyy anticipated that the public will substantially assist. It is expected that the band will shortly have several additions to its playing ranks. Tar Sealing Operations. The South Wairarapa County Council employees have been busy of late fixing with bitumen about three, miles of the country road in the Longbush district from the Gladstone Post Office to beyond Mr Mitchell’s property. This part of the road is now a great convenience to the settlers and the public generally. Next week the sealing plant will be removed to Dalefield and the workmen will commence a stretch of road from Lincoln Road to the Dalefield School and when the work is completed it will fill a long felt want, There will also be further improvements made to the Dalefield Road on the Carterton borough section. A small bridge near the county boundary to the borough will be dismantled and large concrete pipes will take the place of the wooden bridge which is in a bad state of repair. This work will be put in hand very shortly. Personal. Mr J. Hipkins, of Auckland, is visiting his daughter, Mrs A. W. Beale, Rexwood Street, Carterton.
