EKETAHUNA
FITNESS WEEK CAMPAIGN. ("Times-Age” Special.) • There was a representative attendance at the meeting held to discuss the question of holding a "Fitness Week in Eketahuna. The mayor (Mr W. Simpson) presided and there was a very keen discussion. Mr H. E. Greathead offered to organise tennis for the district.
Other organisers appointed were: — Croquet: Miss Angus to confer with Mrs A. S. Carter. Athletics: Mr S. Daniel. (A sports day to be arranged). Golf: Not included, there being too much grass. Cricket: Mr H. Higginson. Hockey: Mr R. Payne. Football: Mr W. J. Henderson. (Hockey and football tournaments to be run in conjunction with athletics). School displays: Mr A. L. Wilson: Boy Scouts: Mr M. W. Priest. Shops: Mr R. Payne. A spotting competition was suggested. Mr Payne also mentioned a Keep Fit Cake. The suggestion was heartily approved. The Mayor said he would try to arrange an evening on the Bowling Green when there could be dancing. He also mentioned small raffles and the Minister is to be approached to find out if such will be permissible. Other proposals to find favour were: An exhibition baseball match, Fire Brigade display, street fancy dress masquerade dance at night, procession for final day. The secretary of the Concert Orchestra is to be approached to see if the combination will assist.
It was decided that a further meeting be hold on Monday week, all clubs to send in delegates to be incorporated in the standing committee. The Mayor stated that February 19 had boon set apart for special church services. The thanks of the Mayor to those attending concluded a very successful meeting.
Church Services Postponed. As the Rev D. McNeur is away on his annual holiday, all district church services have been postponed until Sunday, January 29. Best Lambs Sell Well. At the Eketahuna stock sale yesterday best lambs sold well, while there was a drop in price for medium and cull sorts. R. Harcombe sold a nice line of shorn w.f. wether lambs at 13s 7d, while the B. Wright estate obtained 12s 6d. Small woolly lambs touched 15s lOd. Cricket Draw. The following is the draw for Saturday’s matches in the Bush Cricket Association’s competition: Fire Brigade v Eketahuna, at Eketahuna. Pahiatua v Mangamaire, at Pahiatua. The following is the Eketahuna cricket team to play Pahiatua Fire Brigade on Saturday: H. Higginson, R. Mountjoy, P. Payne, R. Payne, J. Reid, J. Morrison, W. Leith, M. Hansen, O. Reynolds, H. Smith. R. Harnblow; reserve. D. Butcher.
