MISSING WOMAN
abandonment of search AT CLAVERLEY. POLICE INQUIRIES TO CONTINUE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, January 19. After having been carried on intensively for about three months, the police search in Claverley for Mrs Harriot Jane Patience, who has been missing from her home there since October 4, will be discontinued from today. Superintendent A. Cameron said tonight, however, that "inquiries would be continued. The search has covered a wide area of land and water. As well as digging on the beach, the police have combed the back country near the settlement 'and have also dragged swamps and streams. Their activities have extended as far as 20 miles from Claverley.
Both police officers and Public Works Department men were engaged in the search 'during the earlier stages, but the number of men has been reduced as the work was narrowed. Six of the police officers were withdrawn about three weeks ago, another eight last week and the final party of six will finish their work today. The search in Claverley was under the direction of Detective-Sergeant J. Bickerdike.
