FEATHERSTON COUNTY
MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. APPORTIONMENT OF HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council is being hold today at Martinborough. There are present Councillors A. B. Martin (chairman), R. Smith (treasurer), D. D. Cameron, R. W. Matthews. L. J. Thompson, G. Gillies, J. A. McLeod, J. C. Bidwill and Q. Donald. Mr Ben Roberts, M.P., forwarded a letter from the Hon R. Semple which stated that, regarding the suggestion forwarded re the flooding of the Naramamau settlement, even if assistance were granted towards the work required there was at present no plant available to carry it out. The letter was received.
The New Zealand Institute of Engineers 'wrote inviting members of the council to attend the annual conference of the Institute, and also asking the council to grant facilities for the council’s engineer to attend. It was decided that the engineer be granted leave to attend the conference.
A letter was received from the Wairarapa Automobile Association drawing attention to the Grey town-Wood-side road, which was practically covered with gorse and broom, and asking if the council could do anything in the matter. It was decided to forward the letter to the Public Works Department.
A letter was received from the secretary of the Provincial Centennial Committee asking that local information in respect of the history of the Wellington Province be forwarded. It was decided that the request be acceded to. A similar letter was received from the Wairarapa district committee and was dealt with in a similar manner.
The Masterton County Council forwarded the apportionment of heavy traffic fees for the quarter ended November 30, 1938. The Featherston County Council’s amount came to £322 2s lOd as against £285 18s Id for the same period in 1937. V. A. Draper wrote offering £2OO for the council’s small grader, provided immediate delivery could be given. The matter was deferred.
